―― 今回で2回目の来日ですね。噂によると前回の来日時に叶わなかったアイススケートに今晩行かれるそうですね。ビル・カウリッツ（以下ビル） そうなんだ。今夜決行するつもりなんだよ！前回は朝からプロモーション活動がびっしりと続いてて、終わったときにはスケート場が閉まっちゃってたんだ。 いつもは、次の日のことを考えて８時間は寝たい主義なんだけど、今日が日本にいられる最後の日で今夜がラストチャンスだからオールナイトでもすべりたい よ！
―― 叶うといいですね！何度も聞かれていると思うんですが、ここで改めてバンド名の由来を教えてもらってもいい？確か3年ほど前に、“トキオ・ホテル”ってバンド名を聞いて、「トキオ？トキョーでもないし、ホテルって何？」って思っていたんです。ビル 何度聞かれても嬉しいよ（笑）。「東京」は、僕らにとってホットで、エキゾチックで、夢のような憧れの場所。そんな東京で成功するための、僕たちの原動力 となって、モチベーションをあげるいい名前だと思ってね、“トキオ（ドイツ語で東京のこと）”と付けたんだ。”ホテル”は、世界中をツアーでまわりなが ら、ホテル暮らしを続ける生活に憧れてね。
―― そうして、実際に夢が叶って東京に来ることができたわけですが、どんな気持ちですか？ビル すっごく嬉しいよ。これもみんなが応援してくれたおかげだと思ってる。6年前とくらべたら、今はクレイジーな毎日が続いていて生活も一変したけれど、我ながらにして本当に誇りに思うよ！
トム・カウリッツ（以下トム） まさか本当に東京に来ることができたなんて、今でも信じられないんだ。ドイツのバンドが日本でブレイクすることってなかなかないでしょ。俺たちはドイツの あとに、フランス、イタリア、ヨーロッパで人気が広まっていって、ついにこうして日本へ来ることができたんだけど、「本当にマジかよ！」って感じなんだ。
―― そうですね。クラシックの世界では日本でもよく知られた有名な作曲家がいたりしますが、現代までに、これほど人気のあるドイツのバンドが日本でブレイクすることはなかったと思います。ところで、実際“トキオのホテル”に泊まってみていかがでしたか？ビル 凄くクールだったよ！映画に登場したホテルなんだけど、あの映画はええ～っと・・・
―― ロスト・イン・トランスレーション？ビル そうそれ。泊まってみて東京にいることを凄く実感したよ。
―― 次回は是非、日本の旅館に泊まってみてはいかが？ビル ラジオ番組のインタビューでも同じことを言われたよ。是非そうしたいね。
―― 畳の部屋に布団を敷いて寝るんですよ。ビル じゃあ、次回の宿泊先は“トキオ・リョカン”で決まりだ（笑）。
―― トキオ・ホテルはトムとビルの双子の兄弟がいるバンドとしても特徴的ですが、曲作りなどにおいて、双子ならではのエピソードなんかありますか？トム たくさんあるよ！曲作り以外でも、普段の生活でもね。例えば、ビルが今どんなことを考えているのか、何を言おうとしているのか、どういうものがほしいのかとかが直観でわかるときがあるんだ。
―― 不思議ですね～。実は今日ここにいる弊社のカメラマンも双子なんですよ。ビル オ～！そうなの？僕たちのファンの子にも双子がいるんだよ！それから知り合いのデザイナーにもね。
―― なんだか多いですね。いままでに、3枚のドイツ語アルバムと2枚の英語アルバム、そして今回日本では『ダークサイド・オブ・ザ・サン』が発売中です。こ れらのアルバムの制作過程においてお聞きしますが、インスピレーションに沸いた物や事には、どんなものがありましたか？ビル そうだね～、映画や本からとか、ファッションにも興味があって、友達のデザイナーのファッションショーから刺激を受けることもあるよ。将来的には、ファッ ションに関わることもしてみたいと思っているんだ。送ってくれる洋服に手を加えてオリジナルなものを作ったりしているんだ。
―― 東京に来て、刺激をうけた物や事はありましたか？ビル 街を歩く人々から凄く刺激をうけたよ。男の子たちのファッションセンスも、とても意識が高いな～って感じた。他の国じゃ日本の男の子たちほどファッショナ ブルな子はいないんじゃないかな？そうそう、ファッションといえば、前回来日したときにお尻や携帯にぶらさげる、ふわふわしたフォックステイルのような チャームをもらったんだ。僕たち（双子）はベジタリアンで、本物の動物の毛皮を着たり付けたりしないから、あれはとても気に入ったよ！
―― それは良かったですね。ところでメンバー4人のスタイルは、みなそれぞれ違って個性的ですが、こうしようと決めたきっかけはあったんですか？トム グスタフはボーリング場によくいそうな人のスタイルをしているけど、特に相談して決めたわけじゃないんだよな（笑）。
グスタフ・シェイファー（以下グスタフ）俺たち10年前に出会ったころから、これがそれぞれの好きなスタイルだったもんな。
―― 中でもずば抜けて奇抜な（！？）スタイルなのがビルですが、今日の服装にテーマなんかありますか？ビル よく聞かれるんだけど、テーマってとくに考えたことがないんだ。朝起きて、一番最初に手に取ったものだよ（笑）。
―― では、ひとつだけファッションアイテムをつけるとしたら、何にこだわりますか？グスタフ う～ん、この黒ぶちメガネかな？
ゲオルク・リスティング（以下ゲオルク） 俺はこのベルト！ほとんど毎日つけているラッキーベルトなんだ。
―― 何か良いことありましたか？ゲオルク それは秘密（笑）。
ビル 僕は断然ブーツ。
―― 今日のそのブーツもまた凄いですね～。トム 俺は、パンツかな～。似合うのがこれしかないからよく着ているよ（笑）。
―― トムのパンツはファッションアイテムというのかな？よくわかりませんが、有難うございました（笑）。今、日本では、みなさんと同じ世代の若者が、就活に励んでいたり、先の見えない将来に不安を感じながら生活しています。そんな彼らに声を掛けてあげるとしたら？ビル アドバイスなんて出来る立場じゃないけど、人間はみなそれぞれに、何かしらの才能があると思うんだ。僕たちはラッキーなことに15歳で学校を卒業して、す ぐにこの世界に入って頑張ってきたけど、今からだって遅いことはないと思う。時間をかけて自分の声に耳を傾けて、自分がどうしたいのか、何がやりたいのか をじっくり考えて行動したら、きっと何かが起こると思うよ。
