Proud To Be a Fan - Project

 Source:  http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=232971181&blogId=536368737

To be a fan of Tokio Hotel is something really special in many ways and we think it’s time to put words to it!

Lately there have been much focus on Tokio Hotel, but not the kind of focus they deserve. Somehow, the fact that this band lives for and creates great music simply gets ignored. Well, we can’t have that, can we?!
Don’t you think it’s time for the voices and opinions which really matters to get heard? That it’s time that Tokio Hotel gets the kind of focus they actually deserve? Because we do, and they will get this from YOU!

The “Proud To Be a Fan - Project” is a way for you fans to express what you love about Tokio Hotel. This is what we want you to do:

Send in a Video of yourself where you express in your own words*Why you are a fan of Tokio Hotel/What makes you a proud fan of Tokio Hotel?*What do you love about their music/What does their music mean to you?

If you don’t want to be in a video, it’s OK to do an audio track only and send a picture of yourself with it. We think it’s important that we actually hear what you have to say, therefore we encourage you to do a video or an audio track!

The video/audio track can’t be longer than 30 seconds. This because we will put this all together to one big video in the end. Depending on how many will participate, we might have to make more than one video, which would be great since we want as many as possible to be in on this. But 30 seconds is still the limit.

If more than one video will have to be created in the end, we will have a big drawn to decide which ones will be on the “main video”, which will represent this whole project! All videos will be published and sent to the band, but the “main video” will represent it all.

If you would like to do a special picture to express your feelings/opinions as well, that is more than OK! All sorts of creativity is more than welcome!

It's OK if your video/audio track should turn out to be a bit longer than 30 seconds. A few seconds here and there doesn’t matter.

The languages you can use is: English and German. This simply because it’s the languages Tokio Hotel immediately will understand. We will put subtitles if we think it’s needed.

If your file for some reason would fail to be sent via E-mail, you can use this to upload it and then send us the Downloadlink via E-mail instead!

http://www.sendspace.com/

If you don't get directly to the page (http://www.sendspace.com) by clicking on it here, then copy the adress: http://www.sendspace.com and then paste it into your searchfield and press enter!

This is a World Wide Project, and we would love it if as many as possible could join in on this! It’s a way to show Tokio Hotel just how much we support them, how much we love them and their music.

Please send in your videos/audio tracks to this E-mail:

To celebrate the exciting release of the Welcome to Humanoid City Tour LIVE DVD and CD, Official Tokio Hotel Fanclubs from around the world have come together to create an amazing contest for you! With multiple opportunities to win from an amazing selection of prizes, this contest will be a great way to fill the next two weeks of boring waiting for the release! And you might even win the DVD everyone is dying to have in their hands!

The rules are very simple - this is a scavenger hunt and you are tasked with finding 15 puzzle pieces that fit together to make one big picture.

So where are these puzzle pieces?

Tokio Hotel have a diverse and international fanbase, and an amazing collection of colourful Fanclubs, so you will need to embrace your fellow international fans and delve into Fanclubs you may never have visited. On the participating Fanclub pages, you will find, somewhere on their website, one puzzle piece. You must save that puzzle piece and keep it safe. On the same page that you find the puzzle piece, you will also see a flag. That flag is your clue to the next Fanclub. Once you have figured out which country you need to visit, you must find their official Fanclub and start the process again until you have collected all 15 puzzle pieces.

Sound's easy, right?

There's a time limit! You have exactly 24 hours to find the puzzle piece before moving on to the next Fanclub. Once the 24 hour time period has elapsed, the puzzle piece will be taken down and you will no longer be able to collect it. That is why time is of the essence!

Don't panic!

There will be a last chance opportunity to find any puzzle pieces you missed. On the 16th July, the last day of the contest, all Fanclubs will have their puzzle piece up on their website. You get a last chance 24 hours for any missing piece. So don't worry if you miss a day or two - you will still be in the running!

So what can I win?

We have an amazing selection of prizes to give away! Check it out:

15 Humanoid City Live DVDs, 15 "Durch den Monsun" singles, 5 Caught on Camera DVDs, 5 Humanoid City Live CDs, singles (Automatic, Scream, Der letzte Tag, Schrei, Rette mich), T-Shirts, folders, notebooks, Posters, necklaces, totebags, pin sets, magazines and stickers from all around the world

With so many great prizes to win, you can't fail to be lucky!

So good luck!

Important info:

* You must save all 15 puzzle pieces to win.
* You must send all 15 puzzle pieces attached to an email at the END of the contest.
* We will not accept emails before the end of the contest.
* Send puzzle pieces + your name + your country to: humanoidworld@gmail.com
* If you want hints or help, tweet using the hashtag #humanoidworld and we'll be there for you.
* Deadline for sending all the puzzle pieces is exactly 8pm german time on 18th July 2010
* For reference, this contest changes country at 8pm german time each evening and will do so until the 15th July 2010.
*This contest is open to fans worldwide!

You will see the first flag here on the 1st July, 8pm. You have exactly 24 hours to find the homepage of this country's official Fanclub and their puzzle piece. Good luck!

The Bill and Adam Comic
Bill:
Hello! Do you understand?! Leave me alone! I don't fancy you, alright? What do you want from me? What [is it]?
Adam: Aww *drool*drool*

Bill: What do you want from me?!
Adam: Oh god, now I've got to cry in a bit.

Adam: Really awesome! Bill even knows my songs!

Things BRAVO reporter Sascha Wernicke wasn't actually supposed to give away...

Meeean! The Tokio Hotel twins Bill (20) and Tom (20) constantly pick on band mate Gustav (21). "He's only ever noshing and never exercises", they're slagging him off. Even though Gustl lost some weight recently! With a laugh they explain to me: "Otherwise he's always getting cheeky with us. He needs those kind of comments from us occasionally. That's how we motivate him!" Ah right, so it's well-meant. I see...

MTV extravaganza returns (Malaysia)

MTV extravaganza returns

TV ASIA’S World Stage series returns to Malaysia for the second year running on July 31 at Sunway Lagoon in Bandar Sunway.
Set to blaze the stage are international artistes such as Katy Perry and Tokio Hotel, and local band Bunkface.

Last year’s event saw thousands of fans packing the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach to catch international acts like the All American Rejects, Boys Like Girls and Hoobastank perform.

This year, Sony Ericsson Malaysia, the official mobile partner for MTV World Stage 2010, has announced that its Asia Pacific Digital Ambassadors, Korean girl band Wonder Girls, will also be performing at the MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2010.

Fans of Wonder Girls will be able to win 10 exclusive passes to the concert and a post-concert party through a Sony Ericsson Malaysia Facebook contest, which will run from July 1 until July 21.

For more details, visit the Sony Ericsson Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sonyericssonmalaysia.

Alex Wong, general manager of the Malaysian branch of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications International AB, said the company had established a partnership with Wonder Girls as the band’s soaring popularity via YouTube demonstrated the power of social media in connecting with consumers.

"This synergy encapsulates what we mean by communication entertainment as the girls constantly update their Twitter and Facebook on-the-go with their Sony Ericsson phones – allowing instant interaction with their fans anytime, anywhere," he said.

Consumers who purchase the XperiaTM X10 mini and VivazTM pro between June 21 and July 16 at all authorised Sony Ericsson dealers will receive two MTV concert passes while stocks last.

Those who purchase these phones at the Sony Ericsson booth during the MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2010 Roadshow at Sunway Pyramid on July 17 and 18 will also receive additional post-concert party passes, while stocks last.

Sony Ericsson will also be setting up an ‘experience booth’ on the day of the concert to allow consumers to get a first-hand feel of their new range of phones.

"Sony Ericsson is proud to be a part of this year’s MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia, as this is an opportunity to bring world-class entertainment to our consumers, staying true to our commitment as the Communication Entertainment brand," Wong added.

On the upcoming concert, Indra Suharjono, executive vice president/managing director of MTV Networks Asia, said: "There’s nothing like the energy of 15,000 fans enjoying a free, live music event with some of the world’s most popular recording.

While in town for the Audi Fashion Festival 2010, Tokio Hotel's identical twin brothers Bill and Tom Kaulitz manage to rock us even without their guitars.

Would any of you consider a real career in the fashion industry, since you've already begun dabbling in it?

Bill: Yes. As a musician, I've had the chance to work with fantastic photographers and designers. I really enjoyed the time I worked with Karl Lagerfeld for Vogue and I've done some cool stuff with Vanity Fair. I also drew some costumes for our last tour. It'd be a dream to design my own line.

Now that you're mega successful, is there anything you hate about fame?

Bill: Sometimes I wish I could just go out and do what I want to do and go drink in a bar or whatever, but it's hard.
Tom: We hate the paparazzi. While we were in the Maldives this February and hanging around our bungalow, they were hunting us down. There were pictures of us in the tabloids the next day.

The other famous pair of twins in town are Dean and Dan Caten from DSquared, who always dress alike. Do you guys do that too?

Tom: We looked the same for the first six years of our lives.
Bill: That's this tiny thing our parents did, dress us identically.
Tom: We had sweatshirts with "Tom" and "Bill" on them for the teachers to identify us more easily. Now, we decide what we want to look like.

Does the rest of the band feel that Bill, as the frontman of the band, tends to outshine everyone else?

Tom: Oh yeah, we all stand in the shadow of Bill. It's always been like that since we started having interviews with magazines and stuff. Bill would be on the cover and we'd, you know, stand behind. [laughs]
Bill: Yeah, we're cool with it cos we know each other so well. Plus, they can go to McDonald's whenever they want. I can't!

Yes Guys! And the time has come!! DarkSide Of The Sun!

Watch it at http://www.tokiohotel.com/us/#home/

I loooove it *-*!

We know how tons of fans desperately wanna scream "Tokio Hotel, I love you!" So we get an exclusive interview for you guys. After the photo shooting and interview, the conclusion has been drawn that Tokio Hotel is sooooo freaking unbelievably hot that it's not really hard to understand why they've become the most successful rock symbol of contemporary Germany.

Q: Welcome to Taiwan. It's such a pleasure to do the exclusive interview with you for our countless readers. Comparing with Taiwanese music, the multiple development of German music is fully manifested in different music field for a very long time. Can you tell us the current status of German music industry? How can those young band members find their way to stand out?
A: Oh, in Germany, it's extremely hard for young band members to succeed. Foreign music (especially American artists) has dominated the German charts for ever, thus there's barely any chance for new bands. You have to get all the luck to have only a possibility to make a name. What's worth mentioning is that it's always hard for German bands to export to other countries.

Q: TH has become a big shot throughout the world. What patterns would you use to work with your band members?
A: All 4 of us live in north Germany, so it's very convenient to communicate when writing songs. Most of the songs and lyrics are created by Bill and Tom, followed by demo making in their home studio. That's pretty much it.

Q: Of course, now you don't have to worry about finding fans, but what about the start? Can you talk about things happened when you were performing in Magdeburg, the small town in east Germany?
A: At the beginning, we had fixed performances at every weekend. We were really young, so we enjoyed a life where making music was our job. What mattered was that we got to keep away from teachers and parents. We only made a little money, but it was still a special life.

Q: It seems like popular culture is somewhat difficult to develop in where you grow up. You started from a place like that, and now become this fabulous band admired by screaming people. What's the biggest hindrance through all the way?
A: After getting more and more famous, the biggest problem is to maintain a private life. You simply can't live freely as normal people do, such as enjoying the pleasure of going shopping. Apart from that, you spend most of your time on the band: performing, publicizing, and are constant on the go. Personal time becomes less and less.

Q: About the name of the band, from Black Question Mark to Devilish, and then Tokio Hotel, can you share with us the stories about those 3 names?
A: Haha, that's funny, you even know the name Black Question Mark, the one we came up with when we were 7! We were too young to be honest with you, and we didn't think that much. Just looking up in the dictionary, and we thought Black Question Mark was cool, so we made it the name of the band. With more and more performances after 10 years old, we told ourselves that we needed a more appropiate name. Then the 4 of us finally founded the band, we thought we needed a serious name, so we changed it into Devilish. At last, the name was changed to Tokio Hotel, mostly because we like Tokyo, and we often stay in hotels since so many performances. That's why Tokio Hotel.

Q: You travel all around the world. Which place or certain concert are you impressed the most? For example, fan actions or the enthusiasm you felt. And why?
A: Frankly, fans in most places are enthusiastic, which surprises us. If you have to ask, during the European tour, there was a group of hardcore fans who showed at every concert in every country and district, and they were always in the front row. We are truly impressed and moved by them.

Q: Having so much stage experiences, is there any awkward experience when you're performing on the stage?
A: Haha, a lot. Once in a concert, it just started, and i was walking on the path and singing, but carelessly fell off the stage. And there was this other time, we held a concert in a small place, so the facilities were not so perfect. The path cracked and hit a fan's eye. And once in France, there was a outdoor concert, Bill climbed onto a several-foot-high iron stand to perform and carelessly fell off. There're lots of awkward things like that when doing a live show.

Q: Talk about some other interests or hobbies besides music.
A: Since most of our time is occupied by work, we simply sleep when we have spare time. Generally speaking, we're all lazy, and we don't get enough sleep as a rule. So we really just sleep. Besides that? Because we all live together, we buy many DVDs and watch them together. Of course, we also spend a lot of time writing songs. Oh, Tom has a really nice sports car and he likes driving fast. In Germany, there's usually no speed limit in autobahns. What Tom is interested in is drag racing.

Q: If you can collaborate with any person (or group), past and present, at home and abroad, to do one thing, who would you choose and what would you do?
A: Aerosmith

Glam Rock Soul
Never stops until you see the end...

Tokio Hotel, Germany's most attention gained mega rock band through 20 years, has crossed half the planet and finally set foot in Taiwan! The vague and sluggish voice with an accelerating power of rock has raised a flamboyant wind in Europe within just 4 years and extended straight to the world stage. Put on your AKG earphones, get immersed in the long-lasting sound, and feel the silent roar of the new age!

Humanoid is the masterpiece of German band ascending the world stage through 20 years. Tokio Hotel has more than 10 platinum albums, 4 number one singles, sold out European tours, and they won Best New Artist at 2008 MTV EMAs. In the producing process of this album, Tokio Hotel consistently challenged themselves, they tried out many possibilities with a spirit of experimenting. The album was recorded in Hamburg, Miami and L.A. Tom, who loves making fun of his brother, smiled,"Bill was driving everyone crazy. He's always coming up with stuff even if when we still got other things unfinished in hand. Other than that, we didn't have any boundries, we tried out many new musical instruments."

Comparing with old albums, Humanoid is more electronical. What the first single Automatic wants to seek is the relation between the emotion that people confront everyday and the convenience in life. Bill asked,"Imagine, how many things that happen everyday are actually automatic? Automatic doors open automatically, cars shift gears automatically, cameras focus automatically...These things sound good and convenient, but when they're applied in interpersonal relationship (e.g. affection), it stops sounding so good. Love has to come from the bottom of one's heart, and it has to be genuine. Cold automation doesn't work." This is why people admire them.

Humanoid is produced by David Jost, who has helped Tokio Hotel get to where they are now. With the use of synthesizer, Tokio Hotel wholeheartedly announce the allegation of the new generation. Having an infinite power to make music, a stormy alternative band has born!

A Legend Starting from A Small Town in Germany
Tokio Hotel's story begins in Leipzig. Around 2 weeks before the Berlin wall was torn down, the twins Bill and Tom was born in Sept.1, 1989. They got in touch with music at a very young age because of their stepfather. They had their own ideas, and by making enough effort, they were gradually known around Magdeburg. German Universal noticed their talent. After listening to their demo, the company immediately signed the contract. Tokio Hotel has lived up to the high expectation and become the most successful artist throughout 20 years.

Realizing The Dream Step by Step
A few months after releasing the first album Schrei, other European countries began to notice the band. They put on an amazing performance at 2007 MTV EMAs and won that year's Best International Artist! Tokio Hotel also won Best New Artist at 2008 MTV VMAs. Devilish was officially changed to Tokio Hotel after they joined German Universal. But they have never been to Tokyo despite the name. Choosing Tokio is simply because "it sounds cooler than all the cities in Germany", Tom joked,"If we call it Berlin Hotel, it won't sound so cool, will it?"

Twins Cross Over in Fashion
Tom and Bill have a natural gift in terms of dressing and fashion. Comparing with Tom's hip-hop style, Bill's fashion-forward style attracts more attention in the fashion world. This legendary twins were not only on the cover of German version of GQ, the fashion magazine, but also invited to the Milan fashion week to see Dsquared's show, whose designers happen to be an other famous twins. Marked with crazy hairdo and fantastic guyliners, Bill even gave his first runway show to Dsquared. As for designers they like, the twins were unanimous in accolading the fashion king Karl Lagerfeld. Bill praised Lagerfeld as a creating genius.

The Last Stop in Asia - Taiwan
Western music market in Taiwan is mostly taken by British and American singers, but Tokio Hotel has magically gained a huge fan base through past few years without any publicizing. There're even fans opening blogs for their icons voluntarily. Tokio Hotel arrived in Taiwan in May.2 and arose a big chaos, and broke the western artists' picking up record. We brought the twins snacks and sheets with flowers on them, which are very Taiwanese and symbolic. Those hardcore fans also shot a vedio and made Tokio Hotel feel Taiwanese's hospitality!

The record company specifically asked 2 twin sisters and 2 boys to wear 4 T-shirts, and each T-shirt has 1 out of 4 Chinese equivalents to Tokio Hotel on it.

MTV's World Cup Of Rock: Brazil Vs. Germany

Today's World Cup action is underway, with New Zealand scoring a very late goal in extra time to firm up a draw against Slovakia and the Ivory Coast (playing without injured superstar Didier Drogba) currently testing a very talented Portugal squad. In the first of two World Cup of Rock matches, the multi-faceted team from Brazil takes on the powerhouse from Germany.

Brazil vs. Germany
The Brazilian soccer team has won more World Cups than any other nation, and their team in the 2010 tournament is a favorite. Their World Cup of Rock squad includes a number of free-thinking exports, from psychedelic legends Os Mutantes to the tribal buzzsaw attack of Soulfly. On the other side of the pitch sits Germany, a nation best represented by modern glam icons
Tokio Hotel, industrial metal maniacs Rammstein and the staggering overseas success of David Hasselhoff. Two very different teams that are very evenly matched, but who will walk away with the victory in hopes of advancing?

Vote for Germany :D TH!  nice publicity for TH! come on!

Check in at Tokio Hotel (Singapore) - July Teens Mag

Article

Check in at Tokio Hotel

At St. Regis dwells four young devils: twin brothers, Bill Kaulitz and Tom Kaulitz, Gustav Schafer and Georg Listing. Tonight, they're not resting in Tokyo but at a palatial hotel at the remote part of Orchard Road. Once known as the Devilish back home in Germany, the foursome dropped their naughty moniker and won the hearts of teen pop rock fans worldwide with a new entity, Tokio Hotel.

THE VAMPIRE UNLEASHED

All dressed in black, Bill sits poised on a Victorian sofa in a bar; his coiffure rises over the heads of his fellow band members. He looks elongated like a samurai sword - sharp and thin, all the more so with his long legs. His glance spells caution as if to hint to us not to ask banal questions. Blame it on the black eyeliners and his lush mascara; they make him seem stern. But once the topic changes to vampires, the menace ebbs away and a crescent smile lights up his face.

Bill connected with vampires at a very young age. A Halloween party transformed his regular boy image and turned him 'vampastic'. He began to experiment with Gothic fashion and makeup. Even now as a rock star adored by millions of Tokio Hoteliers, Bill, 20, is unabashed about his liking for fantasy chick flick, Twilight. So if he were given a chance to play a vampire in a movie, will he choose to play a good or bad vampire? "I like to play a bad vampire. I think it's cooler," he says. He admits that it is the gruesome acts that a nasty vampire gets to do that entice him. Everyone in the room laughs. "For movies, it's cooler to be totally different, to try something else," he explains.

FASHION COLLECTION FROM BILL?

But god knows how long fans will have to wait to see him on the big screen. At the moment, the band only wants to focus on music. "I will always do music," Bill says. Tom, the guitarist, seconds his brother's view; "I think we're talented at doing music and nothing else." Seated at their opposite ends, Gustav, 21, the cherubic drummer and Georg, 22, the long-haired bassist, nod in agreement. However, Bill does not dismiss that if he were to dabble in something new, fashion is likely to be on his list. "The fashion thing will be cool," he says. "I like Dan and Dean from Dsquared2... I can do things like that in the future." Bill was a model for the twin-brother brand for their Menswear Winter/Autumn 2010 in Milan.

REBELS WITH A CAUSE

Tokio Hotel has attitude; depending on how you look at it, you can either admire or admonish them. At age 15, they already knew what they wanted musically for their band, Devilish. The adults at their previous record label, Sony BMG Germany, liked to tell them what to do and what was best for them but they refused to be chaperoned. Unlike other acts, they approached a record label with a completed album; they didn't want any stylists or songwriters. "We produced the record and did everything on our own then we signed the deal," Tom says. This displeased their ex-boss. "They did not believe in us and did not think that we have the potential to be successful," Bill recalls. "They dropped us." But their steadfast belief in their talents paid off when Universal Music Germany signed them on in 2005.

'HOTEL' EXPANSION

Their debut German album, Schrei (featuring Bill's prepubescent voice), received the IFPI Platinum Europe Award a year after its release in 2006. The award honours the success of European artistes who have achieved sales of one million copies of their album in Europe. In 2007, their second German album, Zimmer 483, was certified platinum by IFPI Austria. In the same year, their first English album, Scream, which won them the Best New Artist at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2009, they released their latest album, Humanoid, concurrently in both English and German. The former stayed on the Billboard Top 200 for 3 weeks. With just two English albums, their fame has percolated throughout the U.S. Recently, they collaborated with Kerli, the Estonian teen pop star on the song "Strange" on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland soundtrack. They are the first Deutschlanders in German music history to enjoy such worldwide success. "We are really grateful to have the chance as a German band to tour so many countries. Everything started in Germany 5 years ago. It was totally surprising for everyone, our record label and producers. Nobody expected a success like that." Bill muses in perfect English.

In Singapore for the first time, the quartet performed the acoustic version of "Automatic" and "Phantomrider" from their latest album, Humanoid, at the Audi Fashion Festival 2010. After Singapore, they left for Kuala Lumpur the next day. In July, they're planning to visit China and thereafter return to the Lion City again. "We hope we can visit Japan for the first time," Bill says. It certainly looks like a legion of humanoids will soon surface in Asia.

BEFORE THEY WERE FAMOUS

Bill is the most talked about member of Tokio Hotel. Understandably, it is his androgynous image and feminine disposition that sparked speculation about his sexuality. But being looked at differently is not an unfamiliar feeling to Bill. When he was ten, he already didn't look like the kids from his village in Magdeburg, Germany. "People stared at us as if we were aliens. We don't have many friends," he says. Music was their only solace. They were performing at the local club when they met Georg and Gustav - that was in 2001. Together, they formed Devilish. But it was the 13-year-old Bill who secured the group's first record deal after the exposure he gained at a German Star Search contest.

We sneaked a few minutes with twin brothers Bill and Tom from the German pop-rock band. They were recently in town for the Audi Fashion Festival.

You guys walked the runway for Dsquared2. Any interest in becoming fashion designers at some point?
Bill: This has always been a dream for us, and now that we are musicians, we have so many chances to work with fantastic photographers and designers. It would be a dream to design my own things. For the last tour I designed some of my own costumes too.

Besides your hairstyles, how can we tell you and Tom apart?
Bill: Tom is the serious one. He handles the business side of things. But, we're like, one person. For the first six years of our life we looked the same because our parents gave us identical sweatshirts! After that we decided we wanted to look different from each other.

How have you dealt with the success of Tokio Hotel? Has it been really crazy?
Bill: For the first few years it was really strange. We could no longer walk on the streets of Europe alone, or hang out with our friends and family the same way. We've also given up a lot of things, but the sacrifice has been worth it, because we really want to be musicians.

How long does it takes for you to get ready in the morning?
Bill: (Laughs) You know, with the hair...
Tom: Ten hours!
Bill: I practice a lot because I do this every day, so now I take about 15 minutes. You need to have a messy hair to get a style this high - so I don't brush my hair often and I use lots of hairspray.

What do you think of Singapore?
Bill: We are impressed. It's our first time here, and nobody told us how beautiful Singapore was! You have a jungle here and nice weather - Germany is just so cold! we are planning to bring the whole concert production here and do a tour, hopefully! It'll be cool to do a whole tour in Asia, and show you our Humanoid City and outfits.

MTV- World Cup Of Rock

The World Cup Of Rock: MTV News' Global Challenge Begins Friday!

In the spirit of our March Madness competition, we pit rock bands against each other -- fans decide who wins!

Every four years, the international community comes together to decide which nation has the most dominant soccer team (or football team, provided that you live anywhere but the United States). The 2010 FIFA World Cup is upon us, and the first matches start in earnest on Friday.

Coincidentally, that's also the day that will see the launch of the 2010 MTV World Cup of Rock tournament. Just as we did with our very popular Musical March Madness matchup, we've taken a huge sporting event and translated it to the music world. And once again, it's up to you the readers to decide which country rocks hardest and best.

The 16 countries that qualified for the World Cup of Rock are grouped into four groups of four teams each. Play will begin on Friday with a matchup between the first two teams, and every day will see a different matchup. Once each team has played the others in its group, the two top seeds from each group will qualify for the bracketed tournament. From there, it's single elimination until one nation is left standing.

Each country will be represented by a contingent of particular artists, but you should consider any group from that particular country eligible for play. The goal of the tournament is to decide just which country rocks hardest and best.

There will be one match every day, with the winners decided by your votes on the MTV Newsroom Blog. Tiebreakers will be decided by the most votes cast for each individual country, so vote for your favorite early and often.

Let's meet the teams!

Group A

France: The French won the World Cup in 1998 and they have another strong chance to score big this year. In order to advance in the World Cup of Rock, they'll have to rely on the likes of Phoenix, Daft Punk, Air and a bevy of better-than-you-think-they-are French hip-hop MCs.

Mexico: The Mexican team has everything: veteran leadership in Carlos Santana, youthful energy from Kinky and an air of big-game cool from Plastilina Mosh.

Nigeria: Powered by Afrobeat (first birthed by the late Fela Kuti and heard everywhere from Talking Heads to Kanye West), these plucky underdogs are capable of anything.

Uruguay: The small South American powerhouse has won two World Cups (including the very first one in 1930) and could be a surprising dark horse this time around. Their representation in the World Cup of Rock essentially consists of one person — Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta — but he's a pretty great guy to have on your front line.

Group B

England: The English do a few things exceptionally well, with soccer and rock just behind drinking and reality television. With Coldplay, Damon Albarn, Muse and Radiohead leading the way, it should be able to assert its dominance early and often.

South Africa: The host nation doesn't have the strongest soccer team but it does have a solid batch of musical representatives, including arena hippie Dave Matthews, prog icon Manfred Mann and tongue-twisting rapper Jean Grae.

South Korea: Though it doesn't have a great shot at the Cup, South Korea has a secret weapon in the World Cup of Rock: His name is Rain (a.k.a. MTV Movie Awards B, and he is a one man dynamo.

United States of America: Easily the favorite, considering that it basically invented rock and roll, and with any number of massive international superstars at its disposal — including the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters and 75 percent of Metallica — there's no reason it shouldn't run the table.

Group C

Brazil: The Brazilian soccer team has won more World Cups than any other nation, and they've done it with varied attacks and dynamic stars. Their World Cup of Rock contingent is similarly eclectic and flashy, with the likes of legendary psychedelic rockers Os Mutantes, manic dance troupe CSS and the savagery of Max Cavalera, the man responsible for Sepultura and Soulfly.

Germany: The three-time champions (and seven-time finalists) are one of the favorites to take home the World Cup, and their band contingent is lead by one of the strongest front lines in all of music: Tokio Hotel. But will goalkeeper David Hasselhoff be able to lead them to victory?

Japan: Unorthodoxy is definitely the order of the day for their musical representatives, with metal mavens Dir en Grey, pop sensation Utada, punk veterans Shonen Knife and sugary power poppers Puffy AmiYumi leading the way.

Spain: The perfect blend of past and future, the Spanish contingent has a powerful figurehead in Julio Iglesias (who actually played professional soccer before becoming a pop star) and bright young stars in Alejandro Sanz, Enrique Iglesias and David Bisbal.

Group D

Argentina: They're one of the odds-on favorites to take home the Cup this year, but they are underdogs in the World Cup of Rock.

Australia: The soccer team is called the Socceroos, but the Rockaroos (clever, huh?) should bulldoze the competition with powerhouses like AC/DC, Wolfmother and Jet.

Denmark: Denmark's soccer team plays a pretty loose game, and so do their rock bands. How do you prepare for Mew, the Raveonettes and Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich all at the same time?

Italy: Italy won the World Cup in 2006, besting France in one of the most memorable finals in history. Can a team of mostly hard-edged groups like Lacuna Coil and Starf---ers lead them to victory in the World Cup of Rock?

Remember, the matchups start on Friday at the MTV Newsroom Blog. So enjoy all of the soccer action for the next month and get behind your favorite team in the World Cup of Rock.

Tokio Hotel Interview

Edit Lig, HarMan Photo Bobby CompositionZ

Translation: THUS
We know that many fans are anxious when they are mixed with the screaming face to say: “Tokio Hotel, I Love You!!” The fact that we have for you readers to interview them in person. Taking photographs, the interview, to the conclusion that, Tokio Hotel really the commander to the dregs! Tokio Hotel is easy to understand you will become even of the most successful German rock symbols.

Q: Welcome to Taiwan, is pleased to readers for the majority of your interview. For a long time, compared with Taiwan, Germany’s diversified development are fully reflected in each different field of music, can tell us about the status of the German pop music, play the young bands how to find way out?

A: Oh, the young band to play in Germany to find a good way you want very high degree of difficulty. All along, the German music charts are mostly foreign music (mainly American performers) of the world, so almost no chance to speak out younger bands. Have to be a rare favorable factors, have the opportunity of fame. It is worth mentioning that, in fact, the German band has been very difficult to export to other countries.

Q: TH has become a big band music, is usually how to write and compile the program? Model of cooperation between members is?

A: Oh, the orchestra with four individuals living in northern Germany, the creation of communication with one simple. Orchestra works with lyrics mostly by the Bill To m to create, and then directly in the home studio to write. It is probably like this.

Q: Of course, you now do not have to bother looking for the audience, but did it? Can chat with us, had performances in the East German town of Magdeburg things?

A: first, we are scheduled to perform every weekend. At that time a very young age, so rather enjoy the music for the working life. Importantly, away from teachers and parents, then they can only make some small money, although small but still very special life.

Q: You grew up in popular culture where it seems difficult to flow. You use music from there, and become the players gave more cheer for all sharp bands, along the way it is most difficult?

A: ah, start slowly became famous, the biggest problem is very simple, it is difficult to have their own private life. You can not freely enjoy the normal life, like go shopping in the shopping fun. Another ah, most of the time was living in the orchestra world miles, in order to perform or promote, keep moving in mobile, personal leisure time changed very little.

Q: On the group name, from the Black Question Mark to Devilish, later changed to Tokio Hotel, Can talk with us this

A: Ha ha, really funny, even the Black Question Mark that you seven when we take the group were all know! In fact, time is also small, and not to think too much, checking the dictionary later, that “black question mark” very good to get to when the group name. After thirty performances more often than before, felt the need for more names, then four before finally set up a band that needs a serious name to group name was changed to Devilish.
